Most hotels in Hong Kong start check-in from 3:00 p.m., so if your flight arrives in the morning, you won’t be able to check in. Although not advertised, if the hotel has a 24-hour front desk and you contact them in advance, an early check-in can usually be arranged. Here are six of our favourite HK hotels with a 24-hour front desk option.
Hotel Jen508 Queen’s Road West, Sai Wan, Hong Kong
Hotel Jen is part of the Shangri-La group and it offers the same renowned level of attention to detail when it comes to taking care of its guests. Targeted at “independently-minded” travellers, the hotel aims to be flexible and tries to accommodate early check-in where possible when contacted ahead of arrival.
Located in the heart of Western Central, staying at Hotel Jen means that you can easily access bars, restaurants and tourist attractions as well as buses, trams, ferries, taxi’s and the MTR. The hotel also boasts a decent rooftop pool with sweeping views of the harbour and Cafe Malacca, which serves some of the area’s most authentic Malaysian cuisine.
Salisbury YMCA41 Salisbury Road, Hong Kong
Geared towards travellers passing through at all hours of the day, the Salisbury YMCA has a 24 hour front desk. So as long as you let the hotel know your estimated arrival ahead of time, they should be able to offer you an early check-in option.
The majority of the rooms are fairly basic but the hotel itself is situated right across from Victoria harbour so a few select rooms offer stunning views and its location means it’s perfectly situated to explore both Kowloon and the Hong Kong Island side.
Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour1 North Point Estate Lane, North Point, HK
If you fancy staying close to the CBD without being in the thick of it, then the Hyatt Centric is a good choice. Located in North Point, the Hyatt Centric is close to the North Point Promenade (perfect for a morning jog) and is also right on the MTR line, tram line and numerous bus routes. This hotel is also home to Meeting Suite, a flexible workspace.
World of Hyatt members can enjoy an early check-in (subject to availability) and the hotel is extremely accommodating when it comes to assisting non-members with check-in requests, as long as they are provided with a good amount of notice.
The Fullerton Ocean Park3 Ocean Drive, Aberdeen, Hong Kong
The Fullerton Ocean Park is relatively new on the HK hotel scene. Situated away from the CBD and right next to two of HK’s top theme parks (Ocean Park and Water World), it is definitely geared more towards families rather than couple or solo travellers. While it doesn’t list early check-in as a feature, it has a 24-hour front desk. If you give them advanced notice of your arrival time, there will be some flexibility with their check-in window.
The Fullerton allows visitors to experience a different side of HK with sweeping views of the island’s southside’s sea and mountains. Its location also means it’s easier for guests to travel to beaches and hiking trails if you’re looking for a break from city life.
Hotel Icon17 Science Museum Road Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon
Just a short walk away from the high-end shopping mall K11, Hotel Icon is also perfectly situated for getting to numerous tourist attractions such as the Star Ferry or the Avenue of Stars. It faces the harbour so many of its rooms and restaurants have excellent views.
The hotel has a 24-hour front desk and can be contacted in advance to arrange an early check-in. A stunning rooftop pool gives Hotel Icon an edge and a well-equipped games room also makes this a good family friendly option.
Kerry Hotel38 Hung Luen Rd, Hung Hom
The Kerry hotel has become a favourite for local HKers looking for a staycation break. Its harbour views, connections to both HK and Kowloon side, co-working space, and luxurious facilities, also make this Shangri-La group hotel perfect for visitors to the city.
The Kerry offers early check-in for its Shangri-La Circle club members. For non-members, they offer a 24 hour front desk and a promise to offer early check-in where possible. If your room isn’t quite ready, why not check out the hotel’s epic 25 metre infinity pool for a quick dip while you wait?
Note that the Kerry boasts one of the best buffet breakfasts in all of Hong Kong. This is available to the public, so make sure you make a booking if you want to get stuck in.
