Hong Kong’s summer of cinema gets animated with the return of Anifest, a celebration of global and local animation.
What to expect
Co-presented with the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, Anifest features diverse programmes ranging from internationally acclaimed masterpieces to award-winning local shorts.
Whether you’re a die-hard animation fan or just curious to explore the genre more, Anifest offers a rare chance to experience the magic of animated storytelling on the big screen.
Highlights 2025
The festival opens with Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, a poetic tale of childhood and cultural identity, and closes with a stunning 4K restoration of Mamoru Oshii’s cult classic Angel’s Egg.
Other highlights include the mesmerising Canadian documentary Endless Cookie, which explores themes of colonial history and racial identity. Also making its Hong Kong debut is Lupin The Third The Movie: The Immortal Bloodline, where a legendary thief races to unravel the mystery behind a relentless pursuit.
Shining a light on local creativity, the original short film version of Animated World, a Hong Kong animated feature that captivated audiences at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, will be screened during a special sharing session with its producer and scriptwriter.
