Stroll down Dried Seafood Street and chances are you’ll find a grouchy feline lounging amid the traditional Chinese herbs, roots, and fruits. These cats have become icons of the city, and this exhibition celebrates them.
What to expect
This exhibition, taking place at Mini Hotel in Central, showcases images taken by the photographer behind the popular Instagram account @sheungwancats.
The photographer behind the account is a born-and-raised Hongkonger who has called the left-of-centre neighbourhood of Sheung Wan home for the past decade. Inspired by other projects that document the city’s feline community, she began @sheungwancats back in 2020.
So, what sets these photos apart? Instead of only focusing on the cats themselves, the images capture an entire world: the interior of the shop, the area around, and sweet moments of interaction.
