Witness the wonder that is dance at Freespace Dance, a festival dedicated to choreography and movement.
What happens
Freespace Dance returns with an avant-garde program that rethinks and reimagines concepts of time and space through innovative choreography and performance.
Kicking off the festival is Freespace Dance-exhibitionist, a newly commissioned piece by renowned Hong Kong dance artist Daniel Yeung. This work revisits multimedia solo dance pieces from Yeung’s celebrated career, offering a fresh perspective on his artistic journey.
International highlights include:
- Mali Bucha: Dance Offering by Thai artist Kornkarn Rungsawang. This unique performance blends traditional Thai ritual dance with augmented and virtual reality.
- Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou’s six-hour video installation exploring the landscape of daily life, and a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of this work.
- TANZ by Austrian choreographer Florentina Holzinger, a daring exploration of the female body. This piece merges the disciplines of ballet, circus arts, and stunt work with elements of body horror and dark comedy.
- The festival also includes work-in-progress presentations by TS Crew (HK) in collaboration with Japanese group contact Gonzo, and Hong Kong artist Zelia ZZ Tan. Additionally, there will be sharing sessions with local independent dance artists through the FIRST platform, dedicated to creation, research, and development.
