Ignore the name– Hollywood Road has nothing to do with the American film industry. But it does deliver plenty of glitz and glam.
One of Hong Kong’s oldest and most iconic streets, Hollywood Road runs through the heart of Central and Sheung Wan. This lively stretch boasts antique shops, contemporary art galleries, historic landmarks, venerated, old trees, and the city’s buzziest bars and restaurants.
Main attractions
Hollywood Road is home to Tai Kwun, a former police station turned arts and cultural center. This colonial-era complex houses heritage exhibitions, art galleries, and stylish restaurants.
About 10 minutes down is Man Mo Temple, one of Hong Kong’s oldest temples, dedicated to Man Cheong (god of literature) and Mo Tai (god of martial arts). The temple is known for its large, hanging incense coils.
Once the go-to destination for antique hunters, Hollywood Road still has a handful of antique stores selling traditional Chinese furniture, ceramics, and calligraphy. In recent years, it has become a hub for modern and contemporary art, with galleries showcasing international and local artists.
Trendy cafes, restaurants, and cocktail bars abound in this area. Grab a coffee at Halfway Coffee, enjoy cha chaan teng cheap eats, or sip on expertly crafted cocktails at bars like The Pontiac and COA.
