Celebrate the legacy of iconic Japanese composer, producer, and artist Ryuichi Sakamoto.
What to expect
Exploring Ryuichi Sakamoto’s groundbreaking approach to sound and image, this exhibition centers on his 2017 album, async.
Highlights include Async–immersion, a site‑specific installation combining Sakamoto’s album with artist Shiro Takatani’s LED visuals of instruments, books, and studio objects dissolving into abstract forms.
The exhibition also features ENDO EXO and PHOSPHENES, two meditative light-and-sound pieces by German artist Carsten Nicolai, installed on the Grand Stair at M+. They’re presented with music from Sakamoto’s final album, 12.
Throughout the exhibition period, M+ Cinema will screen a selection of Sakamoto-related films.
