City of Lights at Blue Lotus Gallery showcases Hong Kong’s neon era, preserving the cultural memory of a city once defined by its luminous streets.
What to expect
This free exhibition presents hundreds of previously unseen photographs documenting neon signage from the 1990s and 2000s. Macgregor’s images capture not only the spectacle of the city after dark but also the stories of the people behind it. Alongside the show, a new book expands the archive with essays and interviews.
Blue Lotus Gallery, founded in 2007, has become Hong Kong’s leading photography gallery, championing artists whose work explores social change, cultural memory, and the city’s evolving identity. Keith Macgregor, a British photographer who settled in Hong Kong decades ago, has built one of the largest photographic archives of the city’s streets.
How to get there
Blue Lotus Gallery is located at 28 Pound Lane, Sheung Wan. The easiest way to get there from Central is to take the MTR to Sai Ying Pun Station (Exit C) and then it’s a short walk down to the gallery.
Alternatively, you can take the tram to Western Market and it’s a short walk uphill from there.
